This interfaith alliance, of which Bet Haverim is a member, hopes to raise the salaries of the lowest-paid workers in Georgia, many of whom are not covered by the federal minimum wage law. To help understand the significance of the choices workers must make, congregants have been invited to jot down ahead of time their own “subsistence” budget for a month, including just the necessities they must pay for and to bring it to the December 5 service. How little could YOU live on? Read more!

Rabbi Mark Kram Joins Beth Or

Rabbi Mark KramPlease join us in extending a warm welcome to Rabbi Mark Kram, who became the new spiritual leader of Temple Beth Or in Miami, FL, on July 1, 2008.

In announcing the agreement with Rabbi Kram, Larry Goodman, President of Temple Beth Or, expressed the sentiments of the Congregation: “We are thrilled to welcome into our spiritual community an individual who has been such an integral part of the Greater Miami community for so many years and who has been a source of education, inspiration and comfort to so many of us.”

Many Miamians know Rabbi Kram through his association with Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life both on the University of Miami campus and as the Florida Hillel’s statewide director.

Rabbi Kram also served as Associate Rabbi at Temple Beth Am in Miami, and most recently as a consultant to Jewish organizations nationwide. He is also a professional Life/Business/Personal Coach.

Said Rabbi Rebecca Lillian, the popular Rabbi of Temple Beth Or for the past four years: “Leaving the wonderful community of Beth Or is difficult to do, but knowing that I am leaving this pulpit in the hands of such a capable and creative spiritual leader makes it easier. Although I’ll be living in Chicago, I look forward to visiting Beth Or and experiencing Rabbi Kram's services and teaching."

For his part, Rabbi Kram observed, “Temple Beth Or has held an important place in our community for over 28 years as the only Reconstructionist congregation in Miami-Dade County. Its intimate size and atmosphere, as well as unique programming add depth to our Jewish presence in South Dade which Rabbi Lillian led with great skill. I am excited for this new challenge and look forward to partnering with Beth Or’s leaders to help strengthen this very special congregational community.”

Temple Beth Or is located at 11715 SW 87 Avenue, Miami. It is the only congregation in Dade County that is a member of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation.
