Since 2006, JRF has partnered with the Jewish Funds for Justice, the Interfaith Organizing Initiative and other social justice networks in the field of congregation-based community organizing to help promote and develop spiritually activist communities. Many of our clergy and lay leaders have led the way in their communities to start and grow "CBCO" networks, transforming their own congregations in the process. This call is for anyone who is interested or has embarked on this powerful method of social justice organizing in faith community.
Please review JRF CBCO and CBCO Omer Project resources.

While we understandably focus on the technical aspects of running and growing our communities (especially in difficult times), there are core spiritual, cultural, ethical and identity issues that bring us together as religious communities. This call will explore some of the key elements that are crucial to keeping our selves grounded in core religious values, spiritual values, and social justice principles as we grow our faith communities. Topics will include ritual life, prayer, Jewish values-based decision making as spiritual practice, spiritual direction, tikkun olam and more.
Please prepare for the class by reading Exploring Reconstructionism: A Leadership Workshop and listen to GOD - Through A Reconstructionist Lens; Social Action (Tikkun Olam)

JRF is one of the supporting signers international observance of international observance of "Global Climate Healing Shabbat Noach". For more information see http://jrf.org/Shabbat-Noach-Global-350.
It is in conjunction with the 350.org campaign in which citizens of the world will engage in a wide range of events as a call to action and solidarity for an international plan of climate solutions that meets the latest science and gets us back to a safe and sustainable world. These events will serve as a lead in to the crucial United Nations conference on the climate change crisis scheduled for Copenhagen in December, 2009.
All Jewish communities including both national and grassroots Jewish organizations and individuals are urged to observe Shabbat Noach as a "Global Climate Healing Shabbat" with special prayers, sermons, Torah commentary/ midrash, songs, lectures, debates, panel discussions, resolutions, kiddushes, meals, nature-walks, stories for children, invitations to public officials and environmental activists, and other means of bringing Jewish commitment to bear on healing the Earth from the dangers that wasting energy and over-use of fossil fuels is bringing upon us all."

Rabbi David Teutsch will focus his session on values-based budgeting and how congregations can make good financial decisions even when choices are challenging. Many JRF congregations currently face painful challenges about where and how to allocate limited funds. How does a board go through decision-making processes to make necessary budget adjustments or cuts during tough times? He will also address the importance of linking budget processes with a congregation’s mission, objectives and values. To listen to the call, click here: http://jrf.org/node/2581
Herb Tobin will focus his session on fundraising and build on the more basic fundraising PEARL session he offered last year. In this session, he will provide more advanced ideas about the realities of congregational fundraising. His presentation will also focus on the larger contextual challenges of congregational fundraising in this challenging economic climate.
