JRF joins East Africa Relief

Countries in the Horn of Africa including, Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti are experiencing the worst drought in 60 years. As a result, millions of people are in desperate need of food and water. Livestock and crops are deteriorating due to the lack of access to water and malnutrition is on the rise. A famine has been declared in a number of regions of Somalia and elsewhere, causing hundreds of thousands of people to flee to neighboring countries.
The Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief (JCDR), an alliance of U.S. and foreign Jewish agencies that provide a united Jewish response to humanitarian disasters, has formed a special coordinating group in response to the drought and ensuing famine in East Africa. The Coalition. of which the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation is an executive council member, is in contact with national and international partners to assess the situation and determine the most efficient way to respond. As usual, the Coalition will use its past experience with humanitarian crises to aid those most in need.
You can also take action through USAID's federal program (FWD) www.usaid.gov/fwd. "FWD stands for Famine, War, Drought: the three major crises that have led to this perfect storm of devastation in the Horn of Africa" said Dr. Rajiv Shah, USAID's Administrator. "But it also stands for our call to action—that people get informed, get engaged and forward this information on to their friends and families." You can use their co-branding tool-kit and downloadable action guide.
